Cingoli Balcony of Le Marche or Ignomy of Le Marche? The formation of the "Clean Country" committee (Comitato Pulita Campagna), in June / July 2008 was the spontaneous reaction of residents of Cingoli to the shocking news that in one of the most charming places in the Cingoli municipality, Fosso Mabiglia, on the river Pavanella in the Castel Letta locality, a garbage dump was to be created, closeby are the historic towns of Treia, Appignano and Filottrano and in the immediate vicinity are the villages Troviggiano, Avenale and Grottaccia, as well as numerous other places popular with tourists. The committee is not only fighting for the protection and preservation of the environment in the area around Cingoli, but also is committed to its further appreciation. Furthermore, information about the beauty, harmony and the special value of this landscape is being circulated. The committee is trying to mobilize public opinion and inform citizens about the heavy burden on the environment, on the reduced quality of life and any other problems that the establishment of a landfill might cause. The committee would also like to spell out to the authorities the dangers to the health of local residents, the environmental degradation, the pollution and the economic damage to agriculture and tourism. The committee planned initiatives will strengthen public consciousness of the nature and landscape of this region, which stretches along the river Pavanella; a rare and unspoiled beauty. It is one of the few areas of high biodiversity whose landscape through the centuries has been moulded by farmers, and is surrounded by a centuries-old cultural landscape. Many residents are directly affected by the landfill site: the inhabitants of the 56 local farms and a listed Villa with its garden and historic chapel, next to small villages and church schools. . Together this creates a unique cultural landscape that is distinct, simple and pure. This landscape is an integrated part of Cingoli, one of the most beautiful towns of Italy, the 'Balcony of Le Marche' which provides a magnificent view of the countryside, where town and country meet. Your contribution, in whatever form, e.g. your signature to the petition, helps to defend and protect the area around Cigoli (as well as the adjacent areas around Treia, Appignano and Filottrano). The location of the landfill: Fhoto 1, Fhoto2 Participation is free to all: see website www.campagnapulita.it Also we cordially invite you to join our photo competition: http://www.campagnapulita.it/images/INIZIATIVE/photo%20contest%20-%20save%20this%20landscape.pdf or you can view the photos of this very beautiful landscape that is likely to be lost: http://www.panoramio.com/user/2763936 If you would you like further information about this appalling plan before you come across problems during your holiday, such as nasty odours and big double trucks on small white roads, then please contact the following addresses: Province of Macerata Tourist Information: Centro IAT, Piazza della Libertà 8 / 9, Macerata; e-mail: iat.macerata@regione.marche.it or: Clean Country Committee (Comitato Spontaneo Campagna Pulita)
